Bloomsburg Women's Lacrosse Falls to Mercyhurst

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team lost to Mercyhurst College, 10-8, on Saturday. The loss drops the Huskies record to 1-2 on the year, 1-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
The Huskies opened a 3-0 lead in the first seven minutes of play on goals by Meg Taylor (West Chester/West Chester), Kimberly Springman (Downingtown/Bishop Shanahan), and Allison McFatridge (Hatboro/Upper Moreland). However, the Lakers rallied and scored the next three goals to tie up the game. Bloomsburg fought back with two goals just before halftime from Springman and Taylor, to lead, 5-3, at halftime.
Two minutes into the second half, Mercyhurst came back with a goal from Breanna Haggerty, but Mary Chirichella (Petersburg, NJ/Ocean City) stepped up to score another for the Huskies. The two teams then exchanged goals again to make the score 7-5 in favor of Bloomsburg with 17 minutes remaining.
However, the Lakers rallied to score three straight goals and took an 8-7 lead. With two minutes left in the game, Taylor scored one more time to tie the game at 8-8 before Mercyhurst pulled away for good with two straight goals.
Taylor led Bloomsburg with four goals on nine shots for the game. Bloomsburg goalie Bridget Maenner (Philadelphia/Little Flower) had five saves in the game.
The Huskies return to action this Sunday when they host Millersville University at 1:00 p.m.
